Certain television creators have their own unique brand of storytelling, and co-creator Bill Lawrence leans hard into his sensibilities in season 3 of Shrinking. The ensemble comedy, which premieres today on AppleTV, has firmly established its vast roster of characters and who they are, and while the show can start to feel repetitive at times, it’s a welcome reminder that a TV show doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel at every turn. Indeed, Scrubs, Cougar Town, and Ted Lasso all share similar DNA (and a few performers) with his latest show: they’re all essentially workplace sitcoms that function as hangout experiences where different characters can bounce off one another.

Grade: C-

For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction. On the same weekend when Tom Cruise & Co. are defying death on the big screen, Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth wasn’t even given the decency of a one-week theatrical run, and has been relegated to the AppleTV+ streamer. Whereas Christopher McQuarrie seeks to redefine action spectacle, Ritchie’s film never distinguishes itself as anything more than a clone of films like National Treasure or the Dan Brown/Robert Langdon series.

Severance Season 2 Episode 6 Review

Warning: This review of Severance season 2 episode 6 will contain spoilers.

Fun fact: episode 6 of Severance season 2 was the last which AppleTV+ had distributed to most critics in advance of the show’s premiere. And with the final moments arriving in the shocking fashion as they do, I can understand why. Within the world of the show, reintegration has always felt like a kind of trial-run procedure – especially given what happened to Petey last season. So to see Mark (Adam Scott) rushing through the terrifying process first-hand makes us understand just how great the stakes are.
